Big Docs Made Easy is the culmination of ten years of FrameMaker
consulting and training experience.
The foundation of Big Docs Made Easy are the seven tenets of Easy Maintenance Documentation. We show you why these tenets are important and how to implement them across the enterprise.
Part of the Easy Maintenance Documentation course explains the step-by-step procedures to create and modify a template prior to implementing it in the workplace. These procedures explain all the nuts and bolts of template design and show you the proper workflow for creating Master Pages, creating and modifying paragraph tags and character tags, including setting up numbering properties for complex page numbers and complex section numbers.
During the course, youll build a template from scratch and
add and modify formats to it as new concepts are introduced. In
parallel with this effort, youll write a style guide that
explains all the formats and how they are to be used. As a part
of writing the style guide, youll learn solutions to problems
that crop up when you use some advanced layout properties. Youll
learn how to maintain document integrity when logical chapters are
split into physically separate documents, and strategies for creating
and maintaining chapter-level tables of contents (CTOCs) compared
to book-wide tables of contents (BTOCs).
By the end of the fourth day of class, youll learn more insider tips and tricks that will save you hours of time.
The first half of the last day of class is a review of all the tenets of Easy Maintenance Documentation. The second half is more free-form; students are encouraged to bring in actual problems or documents that they are working on. The class as a whole will suggest solutions and then see the results of these solutions. The instructor will share suggested solutions and then implement them and trouble-shoot them.
