When we create a template or an EDD/DTD for a client, we recommend training the writers how to use the formats or elements. Aside from saving time, a template training course can ensure that formats are used properly and that writers know how to use the customized solutions.
Template training is also useful to train new writers how to use existing templates and EDDs. One of our clients told us that prior to having a template training course, their most experienced user would sit down with new writers and tutor them, sometimes for up to a month!
In an ideal world, new hires would be experienced enough to know how to use existing templates without any training. While this is unrealistic for even the most experienced FrameMaker users, it is impossible for users who have never used FrameMaker to sit down with the manual and the template and create documents that conform to style guidelines.
All of our customized training courses are self-paced; thus, they can be used by the user sitting alone at a workstation or led by our instructors. Of course, the advantage of having an instructor present the material is that the user can ask questions, especially when we have created the templates. The advantage of having self-paced training material is that new users dont have to wait until there are enough people to justify having our instructors come to your site and conduct a class.
Our rates for customized training vary depending on the length and complexity of the course and whether we create the template/EDD or use an existing one.
